Tracing its roots to the city's first professional orchestra in 1924, the OKC Philharmonic was formally established in 1988 under founder and music director emeritus Joel Levine; Alexander Mickelthwate took the baton as music director in 2018.

Each season runs September through May with eight Classics concerts and six pairs of Pops concerts; all concerts take place at the Civic Center Music Hall, 201 N Walker Ave, with doors at 6:30PM and performances at 7:30PM. Since 2001 the orchestra has performed in the Thelma Gaylord Performing Arts Theater at the Civic Center Music Hall, a $52.2 million MAPS renovation with state-of-the-art acoustics that converts between concert-hall and Broadway-theater configurations. Guest artists over the years have included Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, Joshua Bell, Renee Fleming, Pink Martini, Chris Botti, Amy Grant and Tony Bennett.
