We're a small team of OKC locals who walk into restaurants in the Plaza District, sit at the bar in Midtown, hike the trails at Lake Hefner, and stay the night in Bricktown — then write up what we found. No aggregation. No algorithms. No score-buying.
We grew up here, moved away, and came back. Each time, the same question came up over dinner: “Where should we go?” And the same handful of tired answers — the same chain restaurants, the same five bars, the same handful of parks — kept recirculating in group chats and on local Facebook posts.
OKC is a much better city than the algorithm makes it look. There are tiny taquerias in the Plaza District that are better than anywhere in Dallas. A Vietnamese coffee shop in Asia District that's worth the drive from Edmond. A little league of cocktail bars doing world-class work. A park system that quietly punches above its weight.
BestOKC exists to surface those places, in plain English, with a score you can actually trust. We don't aggregate strangers' reviews and we don't take payment for placement. Every BOKC Score is the result of an editor walking in, ordering, and writing up what they found.
Every listing on BestOKC gets a BOKC Score from 0 to 100. It's our single source of truth — one number, transparently built, refreshed as we revisit. Here's exactly what goes in.
Craft of the food, drink, experience, or service itself. Treated as the floor — a place can be charming and still score low here.
How reliably great the visit is. We weight this heavily because OKC places rise and fall on repeat-ability.
Fairness of price for what you get at this tier. A $$ taco truck and a $$$ steakhouse are scored within their tiers.
Reputation among OKC locals and longevity. We talk to bartenders, regulars, and other chefs.
What makes the place singular. Bonus for being the only-one-of-its-kind in OKC.
A destination. Worth crossing town for — plan around it.
Reliable, high-quality, easy to recommend on a first visit.
Worth visiting when the moment is right — get the right dish.
Some real strengths, but inconsistencies or limited appeal.
We don't publish listings in this range.
We revisit every listing at least once per quarter, and we re-score on the spot if something has changed. Scores aren't a purchase — they're a snapshot of one editor's best read on a place.
We can't list everything. Here's what raises a place onto BestOKC — and what keeps it off.
A great score from two years ago is not a great score today. Here's how we keep the index current.
Our highest-rated places get the most attention. A drift in quality costs them the score.
The reliable middle of the list. We check for menu changes, ownership changes, and consistency.
Lower stakes but still published under our name. We re-confirm before the next refresh cycle.
Re-scoring happens the same day we revisit. If a place has dropped, you'll see the new score within 24 hours — and the old score, with a date stamp, stays visible on the listing so you can see the change.
We score independently and publish corrections when we get something wrong. Here's what that means in practice.
A BOKC Score is never for sale, and businesses cannot pay to raise, lower, or remove their score. If a business asks, we re-evaluate independently.
Hours and contact info are re-verified continuously. Scores are revisited at least quarterly, or sooner if something changes.
If we got something wrong, tell us. We publish corrections on the listing with a date stamp and update the score if needed.
We're free for readers. No affiliate links in scoring. No paywalls on the things that matter.
Half of the listings on BestOKC started as a reader tip — a friend's favorite pho spot off Classen, a coffee shop tucked behind a bookshop in Crown Heights, a hotel that got the details right. If there's somewhere you think we should cover, tell us. We read every note and we visit what we can.
Know a place we should look at? Think we got something wrong? Want us to cover a category we don't have yet? We genuinely read every note.
Email us with your business name, address, and a short description of what makes you different. We can't review every submission, but we read all of them and we'll be in touch if you're a fit.
