How the BOKC Score is built, how listings change, who pays us, and how to suggest a place. If your question isn't here, the contact form goes to a real person.
What BestOKC is, who makes it, and why.
An editorially curated, independently scored guide to the best places, eats, and experiences in Oklahoma City — built by a small team of locals who actually visit the places we list. We are not a review aggregator, we do not run a star-vote system, and we do not accept payment for placement.
A small in-house team of OKC-based editors. Every description, summary, and tag on a listing is original writing — we do not paraphrase other publications or scrape user reviews. You can see who wrote a specific listing at the bottom of the page.
Yes, the entire site is free for readers. We do not run a paywall on the things that matter — scores, neighborhoods, and the editorial copy. The site is funded by an optional newsletter and a small number of clearly-labeled, non-scoring partnerships.
The core OKC metro: downtown, Bricktown, Midtown, the Plaza District, Asia District, Classen Curve / 39th Street, Uptown, Crown Heights, Paseo, Film Row, Deep Deuce, and selected spots in Nichols Hills, The Village, Warr Acres, Moore, Norman, and Edmond. If you’re outside that ring, we may still cover you if you’re a destination — but we’re not trying to be a state-wide guide.
How the BOKC Score is built and how listings change.
A 0–100 number we assign to every place we publish. It’s a weighted blend of five pillars: Quality (30%), Consistency (25%), Value (15%), Local love (15%), and Uniqueness (15%). Anything below 70 doesn’t get published. Full rubric lives at /about#how-we-score.
A 90+ means we’d cross town for it on a Tuesday with friends in from out of town. It’s not a perfect-night score — it has to hold up across multiple visits, multiple servers, and a normal Saturday rush. Most of the OKC places we love land in the 80–89 band; a 90 is genuinely rare.
Three likely reasons. One, we haven’t been yet — the OKC scene is large and we’re a small team, so we add new spots in waves. Two, we visited and the score came in under 70, in which case we don’t publish regardless of how much we like the owners. Three, we don’t have enough visits yet to feel confident in a fair score. Use the contact form and tell us — it bumps a place up the queue.
Hours, phone, address, and website are re-verified every 30 days at minimum, and sooner when we get a correction. Scores are revisited on a rotation that depends on tier — top picks (90+) every 8–12 weeks, mid-list every 4–6 months, and solid choices every 6–9 months. Each listing shows the last-visited date and the last-verified date so you can see the freshness for yourself.
You can flag a correction on any listing using the “Suggest an edit” link at the bottom of the page, or email hello@bestokc.com. We verify every correction and update within a few business days. You can’t edit a listing directly — that gate is what keeps the index trustworthy.
No. A BOKC Score is never for sale, and businesses cannot pay to raise, lower, or remove their listing. We do not run sponsored listings, and the rare paid partnerships we accept (e.g. a newsletter sponsorship) are always labeled and never influence a score. If a business owner asks us to change a score, we re-evaluate independently and on our own timeline.
Accounts, saved places, and your data.
No. You can browse, search, and read every listing without signing in. An account is only required if you want to save favorites, build a wishlist, or get the weekly newsletter.
Click the heart icon on any listing or listing card. You’ll need to be signed in. Saved places live at /favorites and stay synced across devices tied to your account.
Email hello@bestokc.com from the address on your account, with the subject line “Delete my account.” We delete the account, saved favorites, and any personal data within 7 days. Confirmation comes back from a real person, not a bot.
No. We do not sell your data, we do not run cross-site tracking, and we do not share your favorites with third parties. Auth runs on Supabase with row-level security. The full breakdown is in our Privacy Policy.
Suggesting a place, contacting the editors, and corrections.
Use the /contact form, or email hello@bestokc.com with the business name, address, a one-line description of what makes it different, and (optionally) what to order. We read every submission. We can’t visit every suggestion, but every tip gets logged and prioritized against the editorial queue.
No. The submission queue is the same for everyone, paid or not. We do not offer paid placement, paid reviews, or “verified business” badges. If someone is offering to sell you a BestOKC listing, they’re not us. Report it to hello@bestokc.com.
Use the “Suggest an edit” link on the listing, or email hello@bestokc.com with the listing URL and the correction. We confirm the change, update the listing, and (for material errors) publish a date-stamped correction note so readers can see the change history.
Yes, send it to press@bestokc.com. We open everything but a press kit doesn’t substitute for an unannounced editor visit — it just helps us know you exist. We won’t trade coverage for an interview or a comped stay, and we’ll tell you on the front end if we’re not the right fit.
We read every message that comes through the contact form. If it's something we should add to this page, we will.
