About

The American Banjo Museum in Bricktown is a 21,000-square-foot museum dedicated to the history and heritage of the banjo. Its collection of more than 300 instruments is the largest on public display anywhere in the world, spanning replicas of early banjos developed by enslaved Africans in the Old South, 19th-century Minstrel Age instruments, post-WWII bluegrass and folk instruments, and the museum's core collection of ornately decorated Jazz Age banjos from the 1920s and 30s. Exhibits include a recreated 1960s Shakey's Pizza Parlor, a banjo signed by Franklin D. Roosevelt, and special exhibitions such as the history of women and the banjo. The museum hosts free monthly brown-bag lunchtime concerts and offers banjo lessons and educational programs. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday 11am to 6pm and Sunday noon to 5pm, closed Mondays. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and students, $6 for youth ages 5–17, and free for children under 5; last admission is 45 minutes before closing.
